Lark international Multimedia Limited

Bringing magical pleasure to millions of movie lovers, Lark international Multimedia pioneered the operation of multiplex cinemas in Hong Kong and Mainland China. Leveraging its phenomenal success in this area, the company subsequently carried out synergistic expansion into such related fields as film distribution and cinema advertising sales.

Our Vision

To be the leading entertainment brand and bringing integrated entertainment complexes to Hong Kong and Mainland China.

Cinemas - Hong Kong and Macau

The Lark Group introduced the UA Cinema brand to Hong Kong in 1985 with the opening of UA Shatin. Today UA operates eight superbly equipped cinemas at various strategic locations across Hong Kong, and manages the largest customer loyalty database of all cinema circuits in Hong Kong.

Generating an audience of over 5 million patrons a year, the UA network boasts almost 30% of the industry total box office receipts in Hong Kong. We believe that such business success is attributed to our well-established customer loyalty. Since the launch of UA Loyalty Club program in 2001, UA has recruited over one hundred thousand members, which is the largest CRM database of all Hong Kong cinema circuits.

In the past two decades, UA has successfully introduced various kinds of new movie experiences for Hong Kong's audience. In 2001, UA was the first to introduce the innovative Director's Club concept at UA Cityplaza. The 16 lavishly upholstered, electronically adjustable seats with side tables, plus state-of-art sound and screen technologies generate a truly magical and memorable experience for audiences. The 2005 introduction of the Digital Cinema at UA Cityplaza was yet another first for the local movie scene, which took a lead in the movie industry to catch up with the global boom in high-definition filmmaking.

In 2007 UA Cinemas opened the UA MegaBox in Kowloon Bay including Hong Kong's first IMAX cinema, in which the stunning images of exceptional quality and clarity fill a viewer's peripheral vision and make audiences feel as if they are "in the movie".

A state-of-the-art four-screen multiplex cinema plus an IMAX theater opened in late 2009 at iSquare, the new iconic shopping centre in Tsim Sha Tsui. UA iSquare IMAX ranked number 1 in the world for box office for the megahit movie “Avatar”.

UA Galaxy Cinemas at Galaxy Macau – one of Asia’s most luxurious multiplexes, with nine 3D-capable screens and as many as 1,000 seats – opened on 15 December 2011.

Cinemas - Mainland China

UA KK Mall in Shenzhen opened in late 2010 with the first IMAX theater in Shenzhen plus seven traditional houses and a VIP house.

The Group also owns and operates the Studio City Cinemas branded multiplex cinemas in Shanghai, Wuhan and Chongqing, and including the first IMAX Theatre in Wuhan. Studio City Cinemas are among the top 10 cinemas in all 3 cities.

Other cinemas to be opened (expected opening date)
- A multiplex with IMAX in Guangzhou at the Mall of the World, a spectacular underground shopping center managed by the Lan Kwai Fong Group (2011)
- A six-screen UA cinema in Guangzhou at the Metropolitan Plaza, a Hutchison Whampoa development (2012)
- A UA cinema in Chengdu with an IMAX, six traditional and one VIP screen at Chengdu IFC project , a Wharf development (2013)

UA Films Distribution

To complement the development of other movie-related activities, Lark set up a film distribution arm which arranges screenings of high quality local and foreign language films in Hong Kong. Following the extraordinary success of “DEPARTURES” (禮儀師之奏鳴曲) in 2009, we have released “CONFESSIONS” (告白) in 2010 which has become the highest grossing Japanese film release in Hong Kong. It represented Japan’s entry to run for Oscar Best Foreign Language Film Nomination, and was awarded the Best Asian Film of the Hong Kong Films Award in 2011. We also distributed half of the 10 highest local films box office in 2011 [“SHAOLIN" (新少林寺), “DON’T GO BREAKING MY HEART” (單身男女), “LET THE BULLETS FLY” (讓子彈飛), “LIFE WITHOUT PRINCIPLE” (奪命金) and "MR & MRS INCREDIBLE" (神奇俠侶)]. The release of “ONE DAY” (情約一天) leads the romantic trend in town and is one of the lovable films of the year. We will continue to release high quality films this year, like the critically- acclaimed “A SIMPLE LIFE” (桃姐), the highly anticipated “THE HUNGER GAMES" (飢餓遊戲) and the film adaptation of the pregnancy bible “WHAT TO EXPECT WHEN YOU’RE EXPECTING”.

Silver Screen Media Limited

Silver Screen Media Limited offers advertisers a remarkably cost effective way to reach an affluent, well educated audience. In addition to big screen advertisements, each UA Cinema boasts lobby video walls which show both movie trailers and commercials. The video walls have proven to be an eye-catching medium for patrons in cinema foyer areas. In some complexes, the mega-size monitors occupy prime locations inside high traffic shopping malls or opposite busy food courts, ensuring advertisers enjoy an even bigger audience for their messages.
